Membership Types

Winchester Photographic Society has several classes of membership; the main properties of each are outlined below.

Most membership options run for a full season from early September to early June.

Subscription fees are due on or before the first meeting of the membership period and no refunds are given for members leaving the Society mid-season.

A new membership type of “Associate” Membership was offered for a trial period in January 2020.

This is the “standard” membership option, applicable to the majority of members in the Society. No restrictions on any Society activity. Note that the minimum age to join the Society is 18.

Available to two members who share the same address. Terms are the same as full membership, however a discounted subscription fee is applicable.

Available to full-time students between the ages of 18 and 21. Terms are the same as full membership, however a significantly discounted subscription fee is applicable

This was offered for the period January-June 2020. Associate Membership (when available) is by invitation only to members on our Membership Waiting List at the start of the trial period.

A discounted membership is available with unrestricted attendance at our normal Tuesday weekly meetings.

The following restrictions however apply:

  • No entry to Society Competitions,
  • No entry to the Annual Members Print Exhibition,
  • No access to Society Special Interest Groups,
  • Access to Society Training Events and Workshops only after full members have taken up first option. Places are opened up, at an unsubsidised rate, two weeks before each event,
  • No Voting rights at the Society AGM or any SGM.

Associate Membership terminates when an offer of full (or Joint) membership is made, whether that offer is accepted or not.

Available by invitation only to ex-members who have moved away from the Winchester area and hence would not normally be able to attend meetings. Membership, at a discounted rate, enables contact to be retained with the Society through the newsletter and Society social media.

Available by invitation from the President only: Life Membership recognises members who have made a very significant contribution to the Society over a number of years. Life Members are entitled to free membership for life.

The Society’s highest and rarest accolade, normally offered to a member who has contributed decades of service and leadership to the Society. Our last Honorary Life President was the late George Walsh APAGB whose membership stretched from the 1950s to the 2010s, serving two terms as President.
