Overview of activities

We are proud of our extensive range of activities for members.

Our regular Tuesday night Programme is a mix of talks and presentations by inspirational speakers from all areas of the photographic world along with internal and inter-club print and projected image competitions, and practical guidance/assessment sessions. Many meetings also include member-run advice sessions, either before the meeting starts or in the break.

We also run monthly workshops and tutorials normally on a Wednesday night, held at Littleton Millennium Memorial Hall, just outside Winchester. Also on Wednesdays at the same venue we have a number of special interest group meetings, specifically our very popular Panels Group and an AudioVisual Group.

The Society also holds a number of social activities throughout the season and during the summer recess; photowalks, summer barbecue, skittles evening, Christmas social, and so on.

See under the Information tab for more about what you get from being a member of the Society.

Benefits of Membership

Our season runs for a full nine months from September through to May – typically 37 evening sessions for your membership subscription. Our programme offers a rich variety of topics regarding the hobby of photography including invited inspirational external speakers & lecturers, enthralling members’ evenings and exciting internal & external competitions.

Optionally, at a minor extra charge (typically £3) to cover costs, we offer Special Interest Groups which meet on Wednesday evenings ( at the Millennium Memorial Hall, Littleton) covering the topics of Presenting “Panels of Pictures”, Beginners and Improvers, Enhanced Reality and practical Workshops.

Our membership ranges from enthusiastic beginners to experienced advanced workers with interests that span almost every photographic genre. We pride ourselves on being a friendly society with members always available to offer advice on photographic equipment, the art of taking good pictures and of course the increasingly important and sometimes complex world of mastering computer software for managing and manipulating your images. Drop-in Surgeries and Print and Camera Discussion tables are also available at no extra charge on many Tuesday evenings.

A highlight of the year is our Annual Print Exhibition. The print exhibition is for members only, offering a magnificent chance to exhibit your work to the public in the Discovery Centre City Space.
