Sarah Townley FRPS distinction
Many congratulations to Sarah Townley whose excellent photography has just been recognised by the award of Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society.
Sarah has kindly agreed to share her FRPS panel with us.
You can remind yourself of Sarah’s consistently high standard by visiting the Internal Competition Image Archive on this website.
If you search on Sarah Townley you should see her successful images from the last few years’ league competitions.
Thanks also to Sarah for uploading her images using the new Member Album feature which we’re currently trialling on this website. I’m calling the feature Member Albums to distinguish it from the implementation of Member Galleries on the legacy WPS website.
Statement of Intent – Applied
My panel started life as a teaching aid for my grandchildren.
I was shocked to discover how few British birds they recognised.
I began sending them bird photographs I had taken over the years from all over the UK.
I made small, pretty cards, so that they could pin them on their walls or take them out on their walks. They had to be clear enough to identify the bird but also pictorial enough for them to want to keep them.
Now enlarged, my panel consists of a more personal collection from some of these cards consisting of birds of prey and farmland on the top row, followed by shore and riverine birds in the middle. The final row shows birds from various habitats including gardens, woodlands and reed beds. I am sure you will find them informative too!
